Paintings with a Heart for the City in Utrecht City Hall

Visual work inspired by the 'heart of the city'. That's how you could describe the oeuvre of the Utrecht artist Claudia C. ten Hoeve. An exhibition in the town hall is dedicated to Ten Hoeve's recent canvases.
Autodidact Claudia C. ten Hoeve has made paintings in Hoograven for the past 6 years with the motto 'contrast is in the eye of the beholder!' She explains: "In my search for what this city means to me, I looked at the composition of the Utrecht population, based on the diversity of inhabitants who together form the whole, a city in ever-changing composition, a city in constant movement, a city in flux. "
The work '1112 - Heart of the City' was created especially for this exhibition and she made an object in collaboration with the children of the Da Costaschool Hoograven and with the day visitors of Altrecht - De Es, because "precisely in these times where polarization I would like to show how much richer and more beautiful life, a society, your city can be, not despite, but thanks to the differences. Contrasts unite, unite contrasts!. "

Speciaal voor deze tentoonstelling kwam het werk '1112 - Hart van de Stad' tot stand en maakte ze een object in samenwerking met de kinderen van de Da Costaschool Hoograven en met de dagbezoekers van Altrecht - De Es, want "juist in deze tijd waar polarisatie zo omarmd lijkt te worden, wil ik graag laten zien hoeveel rijker en mooier het leven, een samenleving, je stad kan zijn, niet ondanks, maar dankzij de verschillen. Weer bij elkaar gezet, verbroederen tegenstellingen."

met handen en voeten, monden en oren
het grijs taalgebied gekleurd door ogen
van staal, steen en vensterglas
jouw ogen spreken die taal
contrastrijk, gelukkig en zwaar genoeg
om te blijven hangen in de vruchtbare nevel
die opstijgt uit de Oudegracht
na een woordennacht of een dadendag
hoor je de eeuwigdurende echo
van de stad die al die klanken nodig heeft
voor de taal die jou herkent
alleen in de kleur valt stilte weg
in het contrast dat er ontstaat
als iedereen zich aankleedt
en honger krijgt
of ideeën
